I recently received a Note 7 from a friend that has 100% green battery showing. I've performed a factory reset via Recovery, gone through setup without connecting to the internet or adding any accounts, and transferred the apk for NetGuard via bluetooth from my other device.
I've read a few horror stories that while trying to activate Alliance Shield X, the battery killing update has downloaded. I want to avoid this, if possible, using NetGuard, but I'm not sure what apps to disable/enable to make sure that Alliance Shield X can activate, but nothing else can contact the internet. Is there a list anywhere of the things that I need blocked to prevent the update and/or maybe another list of things that need to be allowed so I can activate Alliance Shield X when I'm ready?
List of apps to block via Netguard?

Using a firewall is a good idea. Since Netguard is a firewall, it should block everything from internet access by default. Then you can allow internet access for single apps or packages. Normally it sholuld be enough to allow the alliance shieldx app to connect to the internet first. Once the shield is active, you can allow the apps you want to use (like Chrome, Whatsapp, messengers etc.)sparetire55 wrote: Mon Jul 10, 2017 5:29 pm I recently received a Note 7 from a friend that has 100% green battery showing. I prefer this NoRoot Firewall:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ewall.beta
It will show you which app / package wants to get intenet access and you can decide if you allow or not, even separate for Wifi and moblie data.
So I think with a firewall and correct settings you are well prepared.
For the activation of shieldx a slow internet connection is sufficient, look for a place with poor internet, like edge, or just use your own Wifi and throttle it in your wifi router. So any Samsung update would take too much time to download.

When I tried to run the Appliance Shield X a "Google Play Services Update Required" popped up. Do I want to unblock that on the firewall and update it for Appliance Shield X to work correctly?

I'm sorry for the late reply to your last post. I suspect you've already got the issue sorted with a new build of Shield. I worked with Daniel a few weeks ago on a minor bug that was causing the Google Play Update requirement *BEFORE* shield would actually instantiate. It causes a catch-22. It looked like SHield was running, but it really wasn't, then the OTA update would start downloading, and you had to factory reset and start all over again. In this case, you'd never get shield active before the OTA started downloading. Daniel incorporated our findings into a new build of Shield and made it available about a month ago. It's running flawlessly on both of my Note 7s right now. If you haven't gotten Shield activated, I'm happy to help you through it.

That’s a smart approach — keeping the device offline until you’ve got everything set up is definitely the safest move. Unfortunately, there isn’t an official list of what to block for Alliance Shield X activation, since Samsung’s update services can vary slightly by region and firmware version.
However, a good rule of thumb is to block system update services like FOTA, Software Update, and Samsung Update Service while allowing Alliance Shield X, Google Play Services, and Google Framework temporarily to complete activation. After that, you can disable all network access again via NetGuard.
