Hi
Canada, BC - Rogers carrier
I followed all the steps outlined, using debloater, downloaded the Candian ROM (RWC-N930W8VLU2API3-20160921150140), extracted and installed using ODIN. No errors detected, but when it reboots it still has my home screen background and all my apps. It did not do a full reset. I think Samsung has modified the boot loader to kill ROM upgrades. I noticed that there is a NAND Reflash option in ODIN but I am reluctant to try this as it may kill the boot loader and totally brick the phone. So I need some advice on this please.
I was away on a trip and when I came back I powered up my note 7, then sometime in the hours that followed I got a message saying "Software Update available, to get the best performance...blah blah blah" what a bunch of lies. Now when I go to settings this message is right at the top of the settings screen with a "Press here to update" and an X to cancel. I know that if I push the X to cancel it will update. What I think is going to happen is they will update automatically on Dec 15th regardless of whether I push the button or not. Just a small rant. I own this phone outright, $1054. The recall is not legally binding on the owner, only on the vendor and on the resale of the device. These people have no legal right to damage some else's property to preserve their own self interests. You couldn't sell someone a house then go in and remove the roof because it didn't meet a standard you perceive.
I have a second note 7, with the grey battery. I will try it next. It has been turned off for the last 8 days. I will post and let everyone know how it goes.
As a side note, on other forums it has been proved that EZ Package disabler has been forced by Samsung to remove the ability to block the key files that prevent Samsung updating your phone. So that is a waste of time. Also I had Package Disabler and it worked two months ago. I blocked all the relevant services. I check last night and they had all been reverted and not by me, and Package Disabler no longer even sees the packages to disable them. Another Samsung strong arm tactic I think. The only system I have found is Debloater because it runs on the PC and can't be blocked by Play Store. As a side note; Debloater 3.90 didn't work for me, there was a file path error and a fatal exception during the install. I removed it completely and installed v3.85 which worked fine.
So any suggestions would be welcome. I loaded the only ROM file I could find for Canada and it didn't work. I also have the older file I think and I will try it next on the other phone and post the results. ROM (N930W8VLU1APH1_N930W8OYA1APH1_ESK)
Great site; thank you for all your work.
Robert
