Ok first off I want to say this site is amazing! Doing an awesome job! I am not sure if i should be concerned or not but i am still getting the notifications from samsung about the killer update they are becoming more frequent too. I have done the 100% firmware flash, and the package disable update. Am I worrying over nothing or did I really miss something? Thank you in advance.

You are fine, those are just harmless notifications you can just swipe away.

Does anyone know the source of the notification? What App or Service is receiving and posting this message?

Is it a SMS or MMS based thing? A FLASH Message?

My concern is that whatever the mechanism is, it could somehow be used/exploited as an alternative path to get something onto our phones given we have all blocked the usual OTA push path...

After-all, given all the buzz about this forum, I wouldn't be surprised if people at Samsung (& Wireless Carriers) are probably reading everything here and is preparing a mechanism to circumvent everything we have done to prevent their attempts to brick our devices!

Thanks!

It comes from samsung push service (com.sec.spp.push)
This is also be used as notification service only for Samsung services (Samsung Apps, Samsung Link, Samsung Wallet, Samsung Pay, etc.) on Samsung devices.
You can disable this package to get rid of those notifications, but may miss information listed above if you need, or may have problems with notifications from gear, watch etc. if you use this.

And for sure you can assume that sammy is reading here and in other sources. But if the backdoors are not just inside there will be no way if users block them. That's why they try with IMEI blocking in Australia, NZ and Canada.
However, nothing is safe to 100% and so maybe it's possible to infiltrate something, e.g. via updating samsung apps. Would be a good idea to let them not update, too.

If you do decide to do a factory reset make sure oem is on and skip pretty much everything. use the app turn on wifi for it if it needs to activate once activated turn wifi off then start disabling the those samdung updates. If you like themes from samtounge then don't disable the push service just yet quickly download whatever themes or galaxy apps then after that disable the push service.
