Testing Alliance Shield - software update vs system update

I successfully installed the Alliance Shield following every step in the video.

When it came to the section headed "Put it to the test", my menu (I am on Verizon) is different to what is shown on the video (I am guessing this is T-Mobile). I do not have a subheading titled "General Management" and nowhere under settings do I have "Software Update". What I do have directly under the main settings menu is something called "System Updates".

Questions
1. Is "System Updates" the Verizon substitute for "Software Update"?
2. When I click on "System Updates" i get a message that says "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped". Am i protected against the impending software that Samsung / Verizon will push?

BTW, I did successfully check the "Security policy updates" and these do not update exactly as described in the video
