And its not possible to flash that original firmware to the 7's w/ green battery, right???

It's not a question of the firmware itself, but of the bootloader. Together with the newer firmware came a locked bootloader. And locked bootloader prevents from flashing a custom recovery, what is needed for getting root access.

Thanks. Bet it wasn't an accident "replacement" devices came with a locked bootloader...
