Samsung made several variations of the N7. Each variation was intended for a specific geographical region. For example, the North American variation was only available in North America (and all the other variations were not sold in North America). The same scenario was true around the world.

Whether or not your N7 can be rooted depends on which variation you have. North American variations, especially those sold by the major carriers, like ATT and Verizon, can't be rooted for several reasons. But here is a general rule of thumb: if your N7 has the Exynos 8890 Octa, then it can probably be rooted...but if yours has the Snapdragon 820, it very likely can't be rooted, especially if acquired from a major carrier. (Exynos and Snapdragon are different CPU-chipsets.)

If you want to root your N7 to install a custom ROM, good luck on finding a stable N7 custom ROM that provides full S-Pen functionality.

@TinaBear: Good explanation!

There is an exception for north american (snapdragon) models: Note 7's from the first batch (white battery), with the very first firmware had an unlocked bootloader, so there was possibility to root, if they didn't get ANY firmware update. Later updated, and even non-updated second batch Note 7's (green battery) got bootloader locked, so no root possible for them yet.
