Continue Using Note7 as a Phone on WiFi (after Verizon Blocks you)

I set this up 1/30/2017 and so far it works pretty well and I'm again using the Note 7 as my primary device. Here's what I did:
How it works:
- I activated my old Note 3 on Verizon. I have it rooted so I can turn on the WiFi Hotspot for free (I don't have shared data plan, some people can do this already with their plan).
- I forward my calls and text messages to the Note 7 over the internet. Normally at home and work I have WiFi so don't need the Note 3 nearby to provide internet (it just has to be on and have service). In the car or while I'm out I have the Note 3 on me (usually just leave it in my coat since it's winter) or nearby providing a WiFi Hotspot.
Incomming Phone Calls:
- Go to voice.google.com and sign up for a free Google Voice phone number. Make a note of it, you need the number later.
- Download the following 3 apps from Play Store on your Note 7 and your other phone: Google Hangouts, Google Hangouts Dialer, Google Voice.
- In Hangouts on both phones open settings, click on your Google Account and under your Google Voice phone number turn on "Incoming phone calls". This will ring both devices when you get a call to your Google Voice phone number.
- Go to your My Verizon app on your Verizon active phone. Click on devices and pick your phone line. Towards the bottom should be "Manage Call Forwarding", click on that.
- Find your phone line and forward it to your Google Voice Number. This is free and can be changed anytime or turned off.
- Now whenever someone calls your actual Verizon number your Note 7 should ring through Google Voice with caller ID and you can answer as usual!
Outgoing Phone Calls:
- You can register your actual number with Google Hangouts Dialer and it will use that for outgoing Caller ID but for some reason that option went away when I added my Google Voice number.
- To correct that I just added a second Google account to my Note 7 (make a new one if you don't already have a second one). Then when you are in Hangouts and open the menu you can chose which account to use. Go into settings and click on your second Google account. Click "verify phone number" or whatever it says and put your real number in there. It should send you a text with a code. Enter that code and save your real number to that Account.
- Now under settings for the second Google Account there should be an option for "Outbound Caller Id" and Use your number for calls placed from Hangouts... turn this on.
- When making a call just make sure under menu in Hangouts you are using your second Google account. Since that one doesn't have a Google Voice number it uses your Verizon number for the Caller ID people will see when you make a call from the Note 7.
Text Messages:
- There are a few apps that can accomplish this. I'm currently trialing Join and mySMS.
- Join can forward all notifications from your other phone but it only does remote SMS (no MMS). It works pretty well and has a 1 month free trial. I think it's 4.99 to buy. The settings were a little confusing but basically install on both phones and make sure they're signed in. Then on the Verizon connected phone go to menu > settings > SMS and Phone Calls > SMS and Call Devices > check the Note 7 box. This forwards messages to your Note 7 and you can reply from the Note 7 (sends the messages back to the other phone to send so it uses your current number).
- You can also of course text directly using your new Google Voice number but then you have a new number no one knows but thats an option too.
- MySMS is another that has a cleaner interface and does MMS. It is 9.99/year and has a 14 day free trial.
- Install "mysms SMS Text Messaging Sync" on the active Verizon phone. Sign up for premium with your Google account.
- Install "Forward SMS texting w/ 2phones" on your Note 7. Sign in with your Google account and texts from phone 1 should now show up on your Note 7.
- So far I like mysms better, if you go offline on the Note 7, mysms will notify you of missed texts when you reconnect to wifi.
- Feel free to let me know of any better apps you know of for this. Both of the above apps also let you view/reply to SMS from a computer as well. And if you're signed into your Gmail on a computer your Google Voice calls will ring there in the browser too!
Samsung Pay also works fine over the WiFi Hotspot connection as well (I believe you get up to 10 transactions offline as well).
Hopefully someone will find this useful! I may have skipped some steps trying to type all this from memory but let me know and I'll edit it or help you figure it out if I can.

Right, for this method you are using the Note 7 with WiFi only.
Do you have an old phone you can activate? You need a second phone to run Verizon service on (with a data connection and wifi hotspot capable). You forward everything from the old phone that is connected to Verizon over to your Note 7. The Note 7 either needs to be on WiFi or getting it's data connection from the turned on WiFi hotspot running on your second phone that actually has 3g/4g data.
For me at home and work I have WiFi so I can use the Note 7 as I normally would when it had service. So the only time I need the second phone on me (providing the WiFi hotspot) is in the car or where ever else I am that doesn't have WiFi. If you don't have WiFi at your work... well that stinks and you'll have to keep the second phone nearby or on you to use the Note 7...

How'd you get blocked. I'm fine?

I was actually planning to use my Google Voice number through the wifi also - I have it at home and on my job. I have a Note 3, I was thinking of reactivating, in order to get the hotspot to broadcast.
Jason, can I PM you with a question?

I too, am blocked as of 4 pm PST today. Had Shield running, did the Solid Explorer route. Have Verizon. Does anyone know how to unblock and have the phone work like normal, without the Wi-Fi workaround?

Unfortunately that's why we're using work arounds, haven't heard of any way to directly get past Verizons network side block...

Would Verizon still be able to shut down my N7 if its only connected thru wifi?

You would still be susceptible to the updates but if those are already blocked no they can't stop you from using WiFi.

Hi guys im not sure if anyone posted this here yet but when verizon blocks your number it's really a sim block so what you do is go to the store and tell them you are switching to another phone and have them activate a new sim card with that phone bring it home cut it and put it into your note 7 and will work its working for me right now after the verizon block

I have it on good authority that what you said is only partially correct... If you're taking this approach, I would, at least for the time being, only use the new sim in your Note 7 sporadically... Cat & Mouse game, isn't it?

If it were a pure sim block you shouldn't be able to put that sim in another phone and use it right? I think I've seen people on here say they could move the sim back and forth and it works in other phones...
I'm not sure how exactly they are doing it but would be nice if we can play musical sims if it continues to work! Not sure how long it takes their system to catch on that it's a note 7 and if they'll keep disabling...
