How safe am I from the kill update

I have not updated to the 60% update, but the prompt is on my notifications. I tried doing the method listed here to block all updates, but it gets rid of the battery usage thing in settings, and power saving mode customization. So I restored my device and ran a backup, now I have the notification to download and install the update. What do I do to protect myself from the kill update.

What did you do exactly to come there, esp. what you mean with "restored my device"? If you make a factory reset and restore from backup, than all formerly blocked packages will be unblocked. And if you have an internet connection then, the update will be pushed. If you ignore this, the update will install itself later.

Before this can happen you have do to this: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=71

Important that you suspend wifi and mobile data (pull sim card)

After this you can block the packages again:

viewtopic.php?f=14&t=30

And only if all done, you can reactivate your internet access (wifi / mobile data) again.

As there system apk's will be blocked, it really can influence some function. So depending on your device model / rom version it can be that the battery usage manager is blocked this way too. Even with Verizon there are different model in the wild, so maybe this affected not on all Verizon devices:
