Does anyone know of a way to tell if your phone is encrypted? I lost knox when I downgraded the firmware to get back to 100% battery life, in the settings I have setup password unlock however I am not sure if the phone is encrypted. With the loss of Knox do we also lose encryption or does the Note 7 use the OS encryption?

All Note 7's are encypted by delivery. Revoke of Knox user license doesn't interfere this by now.
Only if Knox counter is triggered by installing custom recovery / root the encyption key is lost and you've to do a full wipe of data partition to have further access.

But with a snapdragon based device (as sold in North America) those methods do not apply at all cause of locked bootloader.
Only a few early snapdragon devices never upgraded (white battery) can be rooted with Sprint engineering software.
The way with custom recovery that triggers Knox counter is only available for exynos based devices.

I had thought encryption was implemented only when a password to unlock the device was setup? I did install a custom recover without root access in order to get back to 100% battery life and with that I triggered knox.
