Thanks for all you're doing! I followed the checklist steps for my Verizon N7, and the battery issue was resolved. I'm now charging at 100%, but immediately after the reboot, my phone has a "system update ready to install" message. I wasn't expecting to see that. I followed the steps for the Block OTA updates and it seemed to be completed successfully, but that "System update ready to install message" is still on my phone. Should I be concerned? I'm worried about accidentally clicking it and reverting back to the previous issue.

Thanks. Any way to do it without wiping the phone clean?

I guess my question is, did I somehow allow the firmware update to be re-installed after the reboot by not being quick enough on turning off Wifi? If so, can I repeat the previous process or is is in the phone and I simply need to wipe it clean?

Yes you need to have your aim out of the phone and turn off wifi before protecting your Note 7 so the update won't download while you are working on it.
