Both my wife & I have the Note 7 from Verizon. We have the notification to install the update for the 60% battery charging limit but haven't installed it. Are these steps all I need to do for us to be protected or do we need to do something else?
Step one: -Downloaded the Samsung firmware update but have not installed it
Step two: -Block Samsung OTA updates
Also, I have the 5+ post requirement to download the shield. Does she need to make an account & post 5 times as well or can I use mine for both?

All you need to do is go to the Alliance Shield forum and follow the instructions on how to download the shield app on your device (there's an easy-to-follow YouTube video). You and your wife will need separate accounts for separate devices I'm assuming. After you post 5 times you will be able to sign into the app to activate the shield.
