We now recommend the usage of alliance shield to be safe. S Package disabler was an temporary solution until shield was ready.
It provides "one for all" solution so you don't have to care of the differences between all the provider versions out there.

I have just read all this support thread and I am a little confused about whether I should install the Alliance Shield. I have reverted the 60% battery to 100% using the guidelines posted here on the Alliance website and used S Package Disabler to disable the pertinent packages for TMobile/Samsung. I must have done it right because I have not gotten any update notices or the pushed update of 12/27/16. Do I need to install the Alliance Shield and get rid of S Package Disabler? Thank you for helping me.

Not sure why but my photos are not showing up in gallery anymore. They are still accessable under my files, and are stored on the sd card. I changed my storage to devise and even those test photos still do not show in gallery. Weird. Also, at the same time a notice pops up all the time that says unfortunately backup and restore has stopped working. I had disabled a few more apps that I thought might allow a back door update, so I reenabled them. Didn't work. Turned off backups so that notice quit poping up. No photos in gallery.

If you feel fine you can stay with S Package Disabler. But as it is sometimes not as easy for some people to find all the relevant packages there, we recommend to use the shield as it will fit for all carriers. If you have the shield activated you have an additional measure to be sure that all update packages are set to off.TexasMom wrote:3184 I have just read all this support thread and I am a little confused about whether I should install the Alliance Shield. It's not necessary to get rid of S Package disabaler but you don't need it longer and have to care of not accidently activating sth. there if you open it.

So, beowulf381, I think I understand that I should install the Alliance Shield to be extra safe and that I can keep the S Package Disabler on my phone, just not open it ever again. I will read through the instructions thoroughly and only request assistance if I do not understand or make a mistake whilst installing - please I hope not! Thank you for the support you provide -especially for non-tech savvy people like me.
