Here is what I've done so far. I restored my device to an earlier date to remove the 60% battery limit. Next, I followed the steps listed on the Alliance Shield app. Turned off all updates. Allowed unknown for this instance. Installed the Alliance Shield app and the notification for the update went away but not the icon over my settings.
The only other thing I can think of doing is formatting my device again and this time having the app on a micro sd so I can do everything without ever connecting to the app. Figuring removing the sim card would stop my lte from working as well. But was hoping there was an easier way.

You mean flash? Yes take out sim card before you flash. I would put the shield app on the micro sd and have it in. After the flash process, when it turns on for the first time. Put it on airplane mode. Skip through all the sign ins and get to your home screen. Install shield.. then take off plane mode.
