Hey everyone - so I'm fully Shielded up, and today I received a text from VZW stating that on 1/30/2017 my Note7 will 'stop working.'
Not sure if they're planning on killing the IMEI or if it's just a rehash of the original kill command.
Anyone else receive this text from them?

VZW is planning this: "... First, the company will soon redirect all calls placed from a Note 7 to its customer service department. The major exception to this is 911 calls, which will still reach emergency services. .. This is what I received this evening as well. What options do we have from the Alliance Team? Do we know if the Verizon folks are protected from this or is Verizon bluffing?

And @brian.geller - not sure, seems like some people got different dates. Mine is 1/30 according to the text I received. Maybe they're rolling that part out in phases too.
Kinda bummed about this one. I mean previously we were good with BLOCKING the updates they were PUSHING to our phones, but when the carrier is routing your outgoing calls, I'm not sure if there's a way around that unless we're somehow able to convince them our device isn't really a Note 7 but something else, maybe a Note 4/5 or the like.
I do happen to have a Gear S smartwatch, I suppose I *could* use that with a Bluetooth headset but that might be a tad bit much for me to adjust to. If you've ever watched old episodes of Top Gear (the OG one on BBC) when they'd do these road trips in exotic locations, there'd always be that super crappy 'backup' car waiting in the wings in case one of the primary cars got too messed up to continue. Well my 'backup' is a Note 4, although it looks and works perfectly. I'm enjoying that as a WiFi only device and I hope it stays that way!
This whole situation actually reminds me of back in the day when I was hacking H3 cards on DTV. They would push out an update, I would get around it. BAM - back to free TV. This went on until they switched to the H4 - then the scene kinda died out. Good old days.
I hope this isn't the end for the Note 7 on VZW. I just got rid of the Safety Nag screen the other day and was sitting on cloud 9 - then I get that text message.
For me I'd make a deal with them - just let me continue to use the Note 7 until the Note 8 is out, then I would be happy to exchange it. Although I am starting to feel like the Note 7 is like some kind of rebel artifact phone now.
Ehh... I may hold onto the damn phone now after all this...just to spite 'em.

If true, it sound like we all may be outta luck whenever they implement this new method. I really hope it's just a threat. I figure there can't be too many of us left out there. The safety in numbers is diminishing. Samsung and Verizon are so wrong not to offer us some kind of deal or temporary solution for people who just want to hold on until the S8 or N8 is released.
