The alliance shield is a more advanced fool proof way of stopping the updates.it eliminates all the guess work with what packages need to be disabled and what carriers your on.it also I think changes the code in your phone to stop the updates from pushing through.Hope this helps

The Alliance Shield is just as @Garyinskeep1 explained perfectly. It allows users to eliminate the hassle of the entire last step of the restoral process. It auto-detects your carrier, secures you from said carriers updates and duals as a package disabler enabling users to disable bloatware or individual packages. It also takes care of some popups people have been having for months.
